Think PASS When Using a Fire Extinguisher
2/9/2021 (Permalink)
The time to learn how to use a fire extinguisher should not be when you actually have to use it. Review these easy steps below to teach yourself how to effectively use a fire extinguisher in the event that the need arises:
To remember how to use a fire extinguisher, think of the word PASS:
P = PULL the extinguisher’s safety pin
A = Aim the extinguisher at the source of the flames, standing at least 6 feet from the fire
S = Squeeze the trigger and hold it down; keep the extinguisher upright
S = Sweep across the source of the flames until the fire is completely extinguished
After reviewing these tips, if you are still unsure how to operate your fire extinguisher, take a trip to your local fire house. The fire personnel at your neighborhood station will be more than happy to show you how to use your extinguisher.
