What a Year of Low Rainfall Means to our Local Water Supply
A recent drive along Putah Creek made clear just how little rainfall we received this past year. The Glory Hole, the spillway for Lake Berryessa and Monticello Dam, is jetting high out of the water, as seen in these pictures, when just two years ago the spillway was completely submerged. The current water level of the lake is 408 feet. To put it in perspective, in 2019 when water was freely spilling into the Glory Hole, the lake had to be at a level of at least 440 feet in order for the spillway to function. Let's hope for a rainy winter this year to replenish our lakes.
